Last updated: October 21, 2026. QuickSurface AI launches on November 17, 2026. We will keep this page updated as more details are released, so check back for more info soon.
Ask anyone who does scan-to-CAD work what they want most and the answer is usually the same: scan the part, press one button, get a clean CAD model. For years that “easy button” has been a wish rather than a product. QuickSurface AI is QuickSurface’s answer to it, and it is the most interesting announcement in reverse engineering software we have seen in a while.
As a QuickSurface reseller, we are following it closely. This page collects what QuickSurface has confirmed so far: what it does, when it arrives, who gets it, and what it costs.
Watch the QuickSurface AI Teasers
QuickSurface has released two short teasers showing QuickSurface AI at work on a scanned camera lens gear in QuickSurface 2027 Pro.
What Is QuickSurface AI?
QuickSurface describes QuickSurface AI as “an AI-powered 3D reverse engineering technology integrated into QUICKSURFACE Pro 2027.” Its headline promise is short: “From 3D mesh to editable CAD in minutes – with one click.”
The important word there is editable. Plenty of tools can wrap a scan in surfaces. QuickSurface AI is built to produce a parametric CAD model with editable sketches, dimensions and a feature tree, so you can open it, change a dimension and keep designing. QuickSurface says it “recognises mechanical features and design intent” rather than simply converting a mesh into a solid.
How QuickSurface AI Works
QuickSurface has published a six-step workflow:
- Import the 3D scan of your mechanical part into QuickSurface Pro.
- Align the object by setting its orientation and coordinate system.
- Start AI reconstruction. The AI analyses the geometry and generates editable parametric CAD features.
- Inspect and refine the feature tree, sketches and dimensions as needed.
- Validate accuracy by comparing the CAD model to the original scan with deviation analysis.
- Export the CAD model as STEP or another supported CAD format.
In QuickSurface’s words: “AI Does the Heavy Lifting. Engineers Stay in Control.”
What Kinds of Parts Can It Handle?
QuickSurface AI is designed primarily for prismatic and suitable complex mechanical parts. It recognises mechanical features such as:
- holes
- fillets and chamfers
- revolved features
- drafts
One limit is worth knowing up front: automatic freeform and organic surface reconstruction is not supported in the initial release. Sculpted, organic shapes will still be modelled with QuickSurface’s existing freeform tools.
QuickSurface AI Release Date
QuickSurface AI will be available worldwide on November 17, 2026, with the release of QuickSurface Pro 2027.
How Much Does QuickSurface AI Cost?
QuickSurface AI is included with eligible QuickSurface Pro 2027 licences at no additional software licence cost. A few details matter:
- Active subscription or maintenance is required.
- You bring your own AI account. QuickSurface AI connects to compatible third-party AI assistants through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Any AI usage charges are billed directly by the AI provider you choose, separately from QuickSurface.
- Your AI login stays yours. QuickSurface says it does not store your AI account credentials or have access to your AI conversations. AI processing is handled by your chosen provider under their own privacy and data policies.
Which QuickSurface Editions Include AI?
QuickSurface AI is part of QuickSurface Pro. Existing QuickSurface Pro customers with active maintenance or an eligible active subscription can use it from November 17, 2026.
It is not included with QuickSurface Lite or QuickSurface for SOLIDWORKS. If you are on one of those editions and want the AI tools, talk to us about moving to QuickSurface Pro.
What We Are Still Waiting to Learn
QuickSurface has answered the big questions, but a few practical details are not public yet:
- which AI assistants are compatible at launch
- what AI usage typically costs per part
- the full list of export formats beyond STEP
- how it performs on worn, warped or partially scanned real-world parts
QuickSurface says its “From Hours to Minutes” time savings come from internal testing on suitable mechanical parts, and that results vary with geometry, scan quality and the AI processing environment. We will share what we see on real customer parts once it ships. More info coming soon.
Why One-Click Scan to CAD Matters
Scanning a part is the fast step. Turning that scan into a usable CAD model is where the hours go. A typical scan-to-CAD job today means cleaning up the mesh, splitting it into regions, recognising which areas are planes, cylinders, cones and freeform surfaces, rebuilding those features, sketching and constraining profiles, and then checking the finished model against the original scan.
Each of those steps takes skill, and on a complex part they add up. If AI reliably handles the repetitive first pass, the engineer’s time shifts from rebuilding geometry to checking and refining it. For shops doing frequent reverse engineering, that is where the real value is.
Will AI Replace Reverse Engineering Expertise?
No, and QuickSurface is not claiming it will. A scan captures the part as it is today, including wear, warping and manufacturing variation. Someone still has to decide what the part was meant to be: which holes should be concentric, which faces should be parallel, and which tolerances actually matter. That is why QuickSurface’s own workflow ends with inspection, refinement and deviation analysis.
What AI can do is take the tedious first pass off the engineer’s plate. That makes skilled users faster and makes scan-to-CAD more approachable for teams that are new to it.
Getting Ready for QuickSurface AI
- Already on QuickSurface Pro? Make sure your maintenance or subscription is active so you can use QuickSurface AI from day one.
- On Lite or QuickSurface for SOLIDWORKS? Pro is the edition that includes the AI tools.
- New to QuickSurface? QuickSurface already turns 3D scan meshes from a wide range of scanners into editable CAD models, and the skills your team builds with it now are the same ones you will use to check and refine AI-generated models.
