Frequently Asked Questions

It comes down to inspection versus reverse engineering.

If you need to compare a scanned part against its CAD model and produce dimensional reports, that is Geomagic Control X, with Control X Essentials as the lighter option. If you need to turn a scan into usable CAD geometry, that is the Design X family. If your team lives inside SOLIDWORKS, Geomagic for SolidWorks does reverse engineering without leaving it.

They scale with the complexity of the work.

Design X Go is the entry point, with the essential scan-to-CAD tools for simple projects. Design X Plus is advanced modeling software for regular and moderately complex reverse engineering workflows. Design X Pro is the full package for the hardest jobs.

The honest way to choose is to describe the parts you reverse engineer most often. We would rather put you in the right tier than the expensive one.

Both are 3D inspection and metrology software. Essentials is the reduced-scope option for teams whose inspection needs are more contained.

If your reporting requirements are straightforward and unlikely to grow, Essentials may be all you need. If you anticipate more complex GD&T, larger assemblies, or more demanding reporting obligations, full Control X is the safer buy. Tell us what you actually have to produce and we will walk through it.

Not necessarily.

Geomagic for SolidWorks lets you reverse engineer directly inside SOLIDWORKS, so scan data arrives in the environment your team already knows and the output is native to your existing workflow. QuickSurface for Solidworks is another add-in route to the same goal. If SOLIDWORKS is your standard, starting there is usually less disruptive than adding a standalone package alongside it.

Generally yes. These packages are built to take mesh and point-cloud data from a wide range of scanners rather than being locked to a single brand.

If you are running a specific scanner or a mixed fleet, tell us what it is and we will confirm the workflow before you buy.

Trials are often available and we can usually arrange one.

Training we provide ourselves, hands-on or hands-off. Buying through a certified reseller also means you have us as your first call for support, rather than starting at the back of a manufacturer’s ticket queue.
