FAQs

The SCANOLOGY KSCAN-X is a professional-grade composite 3D scanner built for large and ultra-large part scanning in industrial environments. It is designed for applications where both high accuracy and an extended scanning range are required — including aerospace structures, automotive body panels, heavy equipment, and large-scale tooling. It is available in the US through Digitize Designs.

The SCANOLOGY KSCAN-X has a maximum scanning area of 2.6 m × 1.8 m and a depth of field ranging from 0.3 m to 2.5 m. This extended range makes it one of the largest-coverage handheld 3D scanners available, capable of capturing complete data from large, complex parts in a single workflow.

The SCANOLOGY KSCAN-X achieves an accuracy of up to 0.075 mm and a volumetric accuracy of 0.075 mm + 0.010 mm/m. It uses quad-cross blue laser technology and captures up to 6,450,000 measurements per second at 180 FPS, delivering high-speed, high-precision results on large and complex geometries.

The KSCAN-X and SIMSCAN-S Gen2 serve different scanning needs. The KSCAN-X is built for large and ultra-large parts, with a scanning area up to 2.6 m × 1.8 m and a 0.075 mm accuracy specification. The SIMSCAN-S Gen2 is a palm-sized scanner optimised for high-precision work on smaller, complex parts, achieving 0.015 mm accuracy. The right choice depends on part size and the precision level required.

Yes, the data captured by the KSCAN-X is well suited for reverse engineering. Once captured by KSCAN-X, the data can be exported as a mesh and then imported into any of our Solidworks-compatible reverse engineering products, such as Geomagic for Solidworks, Quicksurface for Solidworks, or Geomagic Design X, where a variety of methods can be used with the accurate polygonal representation of the geometry to create a CAD model.
